welcome to my library! here i'll go over some books i've read, what i'm currently reading and some books on my to be read list!

books i've read

- mary shelley's frankenstein : frankenstein was one of first few books that really got me into reading and solidified my love for the gothic writing style. especially reading this book at such a young age, it grasped my attention in a way most books didn't at the time because it asks such complex and profound questions even adults were scared to discuss amongst themselves. mary shelley's ability to write such taboo and dark topics in a poetic and almost enticing manner really sparked my interest in literature.

- oscar wilde's the picture of dorian gray : although frankenstein definitely sparked my interest in reading the picture of dorian gray was what truly got me into it. this was the first book i had ever fell in love with, i'm pretty sure i've read this book like 5 times lol. i have two separate copies, one nice copy and one so beat up and annotated and highlighted areas for my favorite passages (most of the book is highlighted) in the same way that frankenstein had introduced these new and taboo ideas to me so did this novel. however frankenstein seemed to focus on the hard to tackle subjects such as death whereas dorian gray talks about life, aging, how we live our own lives, what it means to be moral. how do we decide who is and isn't a good person? is hedonism a flaw or an advantage? these are few topics and question brought up in the book. these concepts paired with beautiful and artfully erotic writing makes for a 10/10 book.

- neil gaiman's coraline : i read coraline long after having seen the movie as a child. this book was what made me love neil gaiman and begin reading all his other works. i don't really have a big thoughtful review of this book but it's a fun exciting read and a good intro to gaiman's work.

- neil gaiman's the sandman (series) : although it's not an actual novel i will be inculding some comic books. the sandman is one of my favorite comic series. i really love dark fantasy and mythology. the sandman is such an exciting and whimiscal read. it's one of those comics i've lost sleep over to keep reading. i don't know if you've noticed yet but i tend to lean towards thought provoking books, the sandman is definitely that. it does a great job of both taking you out of reality and being a comic you can really immerse yourself in while leaving you with reflecting of yourself and the people around you after reading.

- mike mignola's hellboy (series) : hellboy is such a nostaglic read for me. just like coraline i had seen the hellboy movies first. the movies were introduced to me as a kid by mom who really loves them so it holds a very special place in my heart. reading hellboy feels like i'm watching hellboy at home with my mom as a kid again.

what i'm currently reading

- takehiko inoue's vagabond : i've been recommended vagabond more times than i can count. i picked it up pretty recently because i found it at my job! i'm in love with inoue's art style, he's so incredibly talented and his writing really stirs up emotions. generally i have a hard time starting books or series but i had an instant coonection with vagabond and i can so easily immerse myself in the story and lose track of time reading it.

- sarah j maas's a court of thorns and roses : i've heard so much buzz about a court of thorns and roses. it's always seemed like something that i would like, i'm a big fan of fantasy romance (ex fanfiction writer...) honestly it was hard for me to get into the book but now that i've started i love it so far. acotar evokes the same emotions as middle school me readings harry potter fanfic on wattpad lmao. i'm super excited to finish the book and move on to the rest of the series, i've heard the third one is the best.

- jrr tolkien's lotr/hobbit series : it's a reccuring theme that a lot of the things i've watched before i've read the book. if you know anything about me it's that i LOVE lord of the rings. the books are a bit difficult to read and can drag on sometimes but i'm determined to finish it :P

- kento miura's berserk : i think everyone has heard a lot about this manga. it's one of the more popular ones and for good reason. the art is so elaborate and the story is captivating of the bat. it's expansive lore is also one of the things i love about this manga.
